Movie Review: The Fountain (2006)

This is the story of three parallel worlds. One is where a scientist (Hugh Jackman) has a wife (Rachel Weisz) who is dying from a brain tumor. Through a project he is working on he is trying to find the cure for her disease. He is so determined to save his wife’s life that he loses focus on the real purpose of his project. As this is going on in one parallel universe his character is traveling in a bubble rising to the dying star in a nebula. Oh, in another world he is a conquistador on a quest to find the Tree of Life. Will he reach his goal in each world?

The Fountain tries too hard to show three parallel stories. Where each story takes you it gets too convoluted and not interesting. I felt that some scenes were even laughable and silly. I didn’t care about the characters at all and honestly toward the end I just wanted it to be over. It could have been so much more. Jackman and Weisz could help this movie.
