Movie Review: The Brave One (2007)

Starring: Jodie Foster, Terrence Howard
Director: Neil Jordan
Genre: Thriller
Rated: R

Jodie Foster plays radio talk show host Erica Baine who becomes a victim of random violence. When ready, she goes out as a vigilante and finds low-lifes at every turn in NYC. She is hellbent on getting revenge herself for what happened to her and her fiance. Erica befriends a cop (Terrence Howard) who is investigating these vigilante crimes. He is also struggling as he is going through a painful divorce which is influencing his decisions. It all comes to a head when he realizes what Erica has done.

The Brave One has major holes in being realistic and I found myself laughing in places where I'm pretty darn sure the director didn't intend to be funny. The best thing about the movie is Terrence Howard as the good cop. You knew there had to be only one. But, because of the cast and the flow of the movie, it does create a mostly suspenseful time for all.

Those who like or live in New York City might not like this movie. It doesn't show NYC in a very good light. With the crime, the people and how the police are portrayed.

"Great. It's Jennifer Aniston!"

Foster did a pretty good job in Brave One... a good demonstration of the power of fear; it felt like the cop compromised his convictions at the end, tho, kind of a let down
