Movie Review: Dan in Real Life (2007)

Starring: Steve Carell, Juliette Binoche
Director: Peter Hedges
Genre: Comedy
Rating: PG-13

Steve Carell plays Dan, an advise columnist, who is a widower with three daughters. He meets a woman (Juliette Binoche) in a library and they immediately have a strong connection. The problem is that he soon finds out she is dating his brother, played by Dane Cook. Oops. This can create some problems.

Dan in Real Life does have some pretty funny scenes because of Carell, including making fun of the high gas prices. It did, however, seem to float from one topic to the next and float back again in a rather choppy way. I thought the movie needed more scenes with him and his kids. The family conflict seemed to go on too long.

Good casting with two of the most popular dudes now in Carell and Cook. Binoche is believable as Dan's soulmate. I was expecting a little more, but I would say that it is still a good movie for any Carell fan to see.

"But if I let you, you might not live."
